‘Of Silence’ is a short film about Edith, an elderly woman, eagerly awaiting her estranged daughter Amalia’s visit after her husband’s passing. As Amalia returns to her family home she is reminded of dark memories, buried deep, and confronted with her mother who was blind towards the abuse Amalia had to face from her father. The film tackles the heavy topic of child abuse through a child’s story and is an exploration into the relationship between Edith and Amalia where each one tries to come to terms with the past.
Edith (female, grey hair, 60 – 80)
Edith is a humble retired woman, who lives a happy but maybe lonely life after her beloved husband died. She is insecure around her estranged daughter Amalia and once confronted with the past, overwhelmed with emotion.
Amalia (female, 27 – 40)
Estranged from her mother, Amalia struggles with deeply rooted trauma while she tries to move on from the abuse she faced in her very young childhood. She has never forgiven her father and now struggles to forgive her mother for being blind to the situation.
