Full Details of Job / Opportunity

Little Blue Monster Productions is delighted to be touring this fantastic Oliver Jeffers story on a national tour to theatres and Schools.

Please be aware that you MUST have a full, clean driving licence due to the nature of this job and location of our company base. Sadly, we are unable to consider non-drivers.

Rehearsals begin on the 25th September 2017 and the tour starts on the 14th October and runs to the 24th December. You will need to be free for the duration of the contract. We will be touring to school & theatre venues, and when we are in schools (which will be around 40% of this tour) we also run follow-on drama workshops for the children

The initial audition will be on the 12th and 13th of September via skype with a 2nd group audition on the 18th September if required.

First of all, we love working with children! We specialise in productions for children and family audiences and we are one of the leading companies in our field. The team have spent the past 20 years producing high-quality shows for children.

Our shows are beautiful and we are very proud of the productions we create, offering our young audience the perfect introduction to live theatre. Our style is physical, highly interactive, and incorporates beautiful puppetry, original music, and magical scenery.

Well, if you LOVE working with children, you're already well on the way! If you're fun to be around, you're getting even closer still. We are looking for very special 'all-rounders' to join our company.

You will need to have a good general level of fitness as our shows are very physical, great comedy skills, sing beautifully, dance well and keep smiling in the face of adversity! We are a touring company, so please remember that you need to be prepared for the inevitable rigours of touring; being away from home, spending lots of time with the same faces, early starts, get ins, get outs, lifting and carrying.

As this will be a new piece of work, we are looking for people who also love devising, understand that there won’t be a script to work from, and you will be expected to work hard on developing the characters outside the rehearsal room as well as in it. You will also need to have experience, or a willingness to learn, in operating a variety of puppets. If you are the kind of person who needs to work from a completed script, then this project isn’t for you I am afraid.

Finally, you must have a great deal of experience in working for children (3 - 7 year olds), and your CV will reflect this. If you do LOVE working with children, show us!

This is a brilliant opportunity to work with a fantastic company, so if you are prepared to roll up your sleeves, are not afraid of hard work, have a brilliant sense of humour and want to be part of an amazing adventure, then we'd love to hear from you.

Rehearsal weeks: £300 per week
Touring weeks: £400 per week

We also provide and pay for accommodation when required throughout your contract.

If you would like to be considered for this role, then please explain why you're the right person for the job in the Cover Note.

CHARACTER 1 – The Little Boy
The Little Boy is the central character to the story. We know that he is intelligent, curious, likes boats and is approximately 8 years old. But he is also quite a lonely little boy as he doesn’t have any friends of his own age.
Because this is a new piece of work, you will be instrumental in helping to develop the characters and story as a whole.

CHARACTER 2 – Narrator, Puppeteer and secondary characters
You will be the main puppeteer for the Penguin and also be playing the characters that The Little Boy and Penguin meet on their journey to friendship.

Because this is a new piece of work, you will be instrumental in helping to develop the characters and story as a whole.
